Year 2 and 3 classes at Falls Road Primary School investigate the Noongar 6 Seasons.
During our introductory Green Lab incursion, the Year 2 and 3 classes visited the Fred EversdenReserve near the school to learn about the significance of native plants in helping Noongar people to recognise the changing of the seasons.
We decided to give our learning a hands-on approach and chose the garden bed outside the classrooms to create ourown 6 season garden as our Green Lab area. Our Green Lab area was bare except for a couple of established medium size trees.
With the carefully chosen plants through the Trillion Trees project our Green Lab area will feature different flowers in each season.
This area is important to us as it opens up the area for future cultural learning and understanding. We have consulted with our Arts specialist and are now creating permanent signs that designate each season along the garden bed.
It will be an area that all classes can use and share.
Future activities that we would like to incorporate will center around NAIDOC week and recognising Aboriginal culture. We feel the opportunities will be endless.
