The Year 5 and 6 classes at Woodlupine Primary School participated in the first Green Lab Incursion in the City of Kalamunda.
Woodlupine School has a small patch of remnant bushland adjacent to the school which at first sight appears to be a patch of predominantly weed grasses amongst Jarrah and Sheoak trees. However on entering the area and looking carefully the students were delighted to discover native orchids, kangaroo paws, sundews and other wildflowers concealed amongst the grasses.
During the introductory incursion students with their teachers explored and assessed their green lab and started thinking about a project they can do to improve and conserve the area.
It is the only patch of remnant bush near the school and it has orchids and other special native plants growing there.
To have a protected area that is free of rubbish and weeds, that has many different native plants to provide homes for animals.
